Social perception: how we form impressions of what other people are like. Asch came up with the idea that by mimicking social perception by listing adjectives (warm & cold) leading to (approach & avoidance: people"s thinking was holistic. Peripheral traits: this is not the only story, there are many circumstantial things that drive your opinion/perception of a person. Other influences include: primary effect (i. e. the order in which adjectives are presented, personal contact, verbal vs. sensory data. Configural model: holistic approach to impression formation, implying that social perceivers actively construct deeper meanings out of the bits of information that they receive about other people. Cognitive algebra page 59: proposed process for averaging or summing trait information when forming impressions of other people. A set of ideas on how inferences about the causes of action are made when observing or hearing about a person"s actions.
