Scored fall into a set of categories. Scores fall along a continuum of numbers. Not that a given measure can often be made categorical or continuous. The values are on some sort of number scale. Subtracting a score from another gives a meaningful value. Categories may be numbered, but only for identification. If you fall into one category you cannot fall into another. The only way to measure a qualitative variable. Basic kind, all you can say are how things are different. Items of categories are ordered along a numerical continuum but the difference between each rank is not equal. Breast cancer severity (stage i, ii, iii, iv) Difference between each rank is not always consistent. Is also nominal, things above will have the characteristics of things below. Not all tasks will work for this, some tasks will need ordinal data. But the difference between each rank is equal so that the values are evenly spaces.
