The first successful intelligence test was developed in 1905 by binet and simon. Its purpose was to measure individual differences in intellectual ability to assist in school placement. Like other tests of intelligence, it compares a child"s performance with that of other children. The leading alternative to the stanford-binet is a series of tests developed by david. Assessment battery for children (k-abc) includes an explicit attempt at cultural diversity and cultural fairness. Other tests include the bayley scales of infant. Whether they are valid measures of intelligence has been more difficult to determine. Tests of childhood iq do relate to measures of academic performance; however, the relation is not perfect. Moreover, the academic focus of most iq test means that they may not be good measures of other kinds of intelligence. Organization of intelligence: spearman was the first proponent of the general intelligence organizational pattern or g, which he suggested impacts performance on many intelligence measures.
