Chromosomes store and transmit genetic information. Dna substance of which genes and chromosomes are made. Genes segments of dna located along the chromosomes. The 22 pairs of chromosomes that are not sex chromosomes: 23rd pair of chromosomes, determine sex, xx = female, xy = male. One zygote that divides into two individuals. Forms of the same gene on a pair of chromosomes: appear at the same place on each chromosome in the pair, one allele is inherited from each parent. Dominant: brown eyes, dark hair, freckles, dimples. Recessive: blue or green eyes, baldness, blond hair, no freckles, no dimples. Kaguya: first mammal created from two females (mice: took 460 tries to conceive one mouse. Not cloning, because genetic material of two different mammals. How do we study the effects of genes on behaviour. Intellectual abilities: psychiatric disorders including children"s behaviour problems, personality. Four major approaches: family studies, adoption studies, twin studies, combined twin study and adoption study.
