A regular pregnancy should be estimated based on 40 weeks - because it allows for discrepancy with when actual conception was (they will always add 2 weeks to your pregnancy - 2 weeks before conception. In this course - at the time you conceive, it is week 1. Conception: fertilization of the egg by the sperm. Period of the zygote: conception to the second week. Period of the embryo: third to eighth week. Period of the fetus: ninth to thirty-eighth week. The time you will likely ovulate is approximately half way through (around day 14) Amnio - taking amniotic fluid out to test it. Increasing levels of fat in skin (thermal protection) You can notice different characteristics/behaviour of a baby when they are in the womb. Agents that cause abnormal development in the fetus. Can have physical effects (malformation) or psychological effects (intelligence, temperament, activity) Drugs (i. e. thalidomide, therapeutic drugs, street drugs, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol)
