Bulimia nervosa: consume huge amounts of calories, feel guilty and purge to get rid of calories, vomit and laxative and enemas to lose weight, weight is generally normal. Binge eating disorder: feel bad about eating but do not purge, generally overweight. Certain areas of the brain are larger than average- linked with eating and body. When they think about food/ eating, they experience high levels of anxiety and control the anxiety by refusing to eat- it is pleasurable to them. Psychosocial factors: dysfunctional families, rigid, excessive need for control, maladaptive methods of dealing with society images.
