Made monkeys watch tapes of fake videos of other monkeys being scared of crocodiles, snakes, flowers and bunnies but only became fearful of snakes and crocodiles: amygdule- revved up- linked with emotions- especially fear, ex. Higher levels of caudate nucleus and anterior cingulate nucleus. Neurotransmitters: lower levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, ex. Low levels of serotonin and gaba (inhibits the nervous system) Faulty thinking and maladaptive behaviour: ex. Hypervigalent: looks for signs of threat and focus on them, disregard safety, over- exaggerate and catastrophize. Fear conditioning: learning perspective- much fears and anxieties are learned, experience- harmless stimulus thought of as harmful- associated fear with danger gained through experience. Stimulus generalization: our fear is going to generalize to any stimulus that reminds you of the original stimulus that reminds you of the original stimulus. Reinforcement: keeps fears going/ active, do not avoid a fear- face it if it is reasonable and safe. Observational learning: set by example from models.
