Document Summary

Chapter 4 nature, nurture and human diversity. Behaviour genetics: the study of the relative power and limits of genetic and environmental influences on behaviour. Environment: every nongenetic influence, from prenatal nutrition to the people and things around us. Genes are segments that, when expressed direct the development of proteins. Dna gives clue to our uniqueness - why one person has a disease that another does, why one person is short vs. tall, etc: most of our traits have complex genetic roots, ex. They are genetically no closer than ordinary brothers and sisters, but they share a prenatal environment. the same number of copies of those genes. That variation explains why one twin may have a greater risk for certain illnesses and disorders, including schizophrenia: although identical twins have the same genes, they don"t always have but one of every three sets has separate placentas.
