Stress: a process that includes psychological and physiological variables. We get stressed when we perceive a situation to be threatening and beyond our capabilities to cope with it. Acute stress: short term, on the spot. Chronic stress: stressed day-in and day-out this is what is toxic to the brain and body. Canan: one of the first to scientifically study stress. He concluded that both humans and animals will undergo physiological changes that include the release of stress hormones (epinephrine and norepinephrine) These stress hormones are adaptive and are there to help the body either fight or flight. Fight or flight: faster heartbeat, blood is directed to the legs and arms, blood sugar and blood pressure go up. We become more vulnerable to headaches and high blood pressure: exhaustion: body is completely depleted of all it"s resources and can no longer fight more vulnerable to chronic diseases. Found above the kidney, releases the stress hormones.
