Document Summary
Sept 29th psych class note neuronal & synaptic transmission. Has ports- certain chemicals can enter, certain ones cannot. The nucleus tells this cell that is a nerve cell. Long axons have a myelin sheet (white and made of fat) Lipid material- does not regenerate well so fat protects it. Insolates material (don"t want 2 live wires touching) Synapse/ synapic gap- between neurons there is a gap. The nobel prize 1906 c. golgo & s. ramon y cajal. 3 categories of neurons: sensory neurons: transmit impulses received by sensory receptors to central nerves system (cns). Afferents: motor neurons: carry outgoing signals from cns to muscles and glands. Efferent: interneurons: no direct connect to outside world, 1 neuron speaking to another neuron speaking to another neuron, far removed from all sensory or motor neurons. Squid- has a huge axon that can be seen by the naked eyes. All cells carry an electric charge (potential) The charge of the neuron can change.
