Document Summary
Impression formation: our first sizing up, not surprisingly our impressions are dominated by our first impressions, called the primacy effect. We interpret any later information about a person using the lens of our first impression. Those anticipations or expectations can influence how we interact with someone. We assign causes for other people"s behaviour. We want to make sense of the unknown. We want to know that there are reasons for behaviour! We over-emphasize other"s dispositional factors and under-estimate situational factors. Give ourselves credit for successes, and blame failures on the situation. Conformity: changing to go with the gang! People of low status are more likely to conform than high. Women are no more likely to conform than men. Door-in-the-face: start with something small, then nail them for something big, ask for something ridiculous, and then get what you were after in the first place.
