Dispel the myth of mental illness (there is a negative connotation like its bad) They didn"t believe in mental health ( looked as second class animals) There was improper treatment of mental illness and people would pay money just to see these people being caged up, shit everywhere, chained to walls, sewer water spilling in and poor nutrition. Theory was called deviance and the supernatural (mysticism)
