Document Summary
Main points: the nervous system, neurotransmission, study of the brain (methods, major structures of the brain. Subcortical structures and function (things that are more primitive and necessary for life; like the hypothalamus and so forth) The central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral system sends messages to communicate from the central nervous system to the glands and muscles for movement. The autonomic and somatic systems are subdivisions of the peripheral nervous system. The sympathetic (arousing) and parasympathetic (calming) systems are subdivisions of the autonomic system. When your brain feels threatened, stress hormones such as adrenaline and norepinephrine are released, yet the brain cannot differentiate between the stress one feels when encountering a bear or being stressed about a mid-term. It responds the exact same way: with anxiety. Neurons and neural communication: the structure of a neuron.
