Document Summary
Most psychologists define consciousness as our awareness of ourselves and our environment. This awareness allows us to assemble information from many sources as we reflect on our past and plan for the future. It also focuses our attention when we learn complex concepts or behaviours. The interdisciplinary study of the brain activity linked with our mental processes. Relates specific brain states to conscious experiences. Perception, thinking, memory, language and attitude all operate on two levels (the two track mind) Processes information in a serial fashion (one task at a time) This is slow and very time consuming. This level processes information in a parallel fashion (all the separate steps are done at the same time) This happens so quickly that the conscious brain does not realize what goes on until it"s done. Blindsight refers to the phenomena where people are consciously blind, but unconsciously have sight. Their brains can see but their eyes cant.
