What are the tools of discovery needed to understand the brain: clinical observation, manipulation of the brain, optogenetics. 5: neuroimaging techniques, ct or cat scan, mri, pet scan, fmri (functional, dsi, mrs. It"s essentially doing a case study on people with brain disease without interfering. It"s when, on purpose, we interfere with the brain and observe the effects. Today, it"s only used on mice by genetically engineering neurons to react to light. This could cure blind people, and some mental illnesses. This is something very new, it just came out last year. This is where they use sound waves to manipulate the brain. It"s where they put electrodes on the scalp and they use them to pick up the brain"s activity and see the brain in action.
