Zeno first generation of stoics (influenced by the cynics) (zeno had a strong connection to diogenes) Plato"s passions change to judgments { ------ : there are things that are preferred (life, there are things that are bad (pain, there are things that are neutral. Stoics: these judgments are the reason why it was okay for the stoics to have families, own property, etc. These types of social interactions were allowed so long as they were not motivated by passion and compassion. The stoics don"t want to make themselves vulnerable by caring or being concerned about things that happen around them they strove to achieve passionless-ness and detachment. To reach a type of god-likeness was to be passionless, detached, invulnerable, untouchable, unreachable. Stoics: we should not live with each other out of love and friendship and compassion, but rather out of befitting conduct.
