For machiavelli, area of inquiry was politics. Pragmatic method of analysis and it"s almost exlusive focus on questionof power- focus was on what he knew he couuld examine was power. Fourth, was an attempt to exclude from political theory what did not appear to be stirctly political. Didn"t care about the end of the state. No ultimate ends to politics for machiavelli. A poltiical world hadnow emerged where the hereditary principle and herediatary was changing. Hereditary system where loyalty prevails lacks: politics, creative special skill, knowledge which he saw to be politics. Believed human nature was totally inquisitive and totally self interested especially true for the nobility noone could really attain all they desire- the human mind remained perpetually discontented. Say something meaningful abt poltics without constricution or presupposing aphilosophy. Virtue is a product of clear sightedness.
