Interests of specific actors shape the story, and it is their control of that information that gives them power: no perspective offers the truth/facts. Identities are subjective: used to gain and maintain power (knowledge is power, there is no value neutral theory, all of us interpret events and global conditions according to our beliefs, values and goals. Historical approach: an understanding of why actions are taken, or why events (war) occur, by reviewing, public documents archives, memoirs. Individual factors: domestic factors, systemic factors, global factors. Independent variables reside in one of the following four levels of analysis.
