Describe synthesis of thyroid hormones, differentiate between t3 & t4 in terms of production biological activity, etc. T4 major product released by thyroid gland. T3 produced by thyroid gland, but not as abundance. T4 is major hormone, when arrives at target cell and goes in, deiodinase will remove an iodine to make it the more active t3 and it"ll go into nucleus and affect gene transcription. Have stored colloid inside thyroid follicles that"s precursor for thyroid, so have enough to still provide thyroid hormones even after thyroid stops working. Only will start noticing effect in a few months if thyroid stops working. Every time need to increase rate of secretion of thyroid, the colloid would take up some of the thyroidglobulin, would chew it up and release of thyroid hormone. Tpo catalyzes reaction of iodide- to iodine, which will be added and making mono- and di- iodotyrosine"s. 2 di-iodio tyrosine will give t4 mono + diodo will give t3.
