Plato: (247-347 bce) first to write on philosophy, student of socrates, founded first school of philosophy. Socrates (470-399 bce) founder of moral philosophy, questioned others on justice, friendship etc. and servec without pay. Story is plato"s account of socrates" trial in the apology . Meletus accused socrates on behalf of poets; anytus on behalf of craftsmen and poloticians; Lycon on behalf of rhetoricians (socrates had made many enemies) Socrates claims he doesn"t get paid for teaching but if he were to be, it"d be an honour. Knows that he knows nothing, that he has no wisdom. Found that higher power men with reputations less wise and more foolish than the less esteemed. Socrates found himself superior to politicians and poets (wrote beautifully from inspiration but the poets didn"t understand what they wrote) Artists like poets didn"t understand their works but did know some things socrates was ignorant to.
