NSG3305 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Shared Decision-Making In Medicine, Chronic Condition, Bronchus
Document Summary
Bp and cardiac workload: decrease amount of functional hemoglobin, compounds problems in coronary artery disease. Increase platelet aggregation: other risk factors: occupational exposures, infection, heredity, aging, smoking, effects on respiratory tract: Increased production of mucus: hyperplasia of mucous glands, lost or decreased cilliary activity, carbon monoxide, decreased oxygen carrying capacity. Impaired psychomotor performance and judgment: second hand smoking, decreases pulmonary function. Increases respiratory symptoms: copd can develop with intense or prolonged exposure to, dusts, vapors, irritants, or fumes, high levels of air pollution, fumes from indoor heating or cooking with fossil fuels. If patient becomes anxious because of dyspnea, teach pursed- lip breathing. Diagnostic studies for copd: diagnosis confirmed by pulmonary function tests, chest x-rays, spirometry, history, physical exam, walk test (dyspnea scale) to determine oxygen desaturation in the blood with exercise, ecg can show signs of right ventricular failure.
