Can occur without cf but rare: thick meconium forms in utero - obstructs the mid-ileum, causing proximal dilatation, bowel wall thickening, and congestion. Diagnosis of cf: sweat chloride test, newborn screening, history, antenatal. Iv antibiotics if infected/colonized, also aerosolized abx: very careful use of oxygen during acute episodes, lung transplant becoming more common and has brought hope to patients and their families. Gi system: function: break down/digest food so nutrients absorbed and waste eliminated.
