Document Summary
Don"t worry too much about knowing the anatomy perfectly, like in. The skin is composed of 3 main layers (below is muscle): Epidermis: epidermis made up of fibrous protein keratin. (basel layer stratum germinativum, superficial layer stratum corneum) Uniformly thin, but thick on palms and soles. Dermis: dermis connective tissue, or collagen. Also contains hair follicles (hair is made of keratin, surrounded by arrector pili, and is either vellus hair or terminal hair), sebaceous glands (producing lipid, sebum) and sweat glands (eccrine sweat or apocrine milky, around hair). Subcutaneous: subcutaneous layer adipose tissue, fatty. Capillary refill (the atopic triad, if you have one you likely have the other. 2 - atopic dermatitis (eczema), hay fever (allergic and protection. Important to know how thick these layers are, as it will help determine how far/what angle to make injections. Capillary refill when you push down on the nail bed, turning it white, before releasing it and allowing the color/blood to return.
