LSR 2121 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Exponential Growth, Thomas Robert Malthus, Virtual Reality
Document Summary
Exponential growth in the last 50 years. With increase in population growth there is the depletion and degradation of the earth"s resources and other species are affected. With increased population growth, pollution is also increased. Food is necessary for human existence, but food is finite. There is passion between the sexes and as a result there is exponential reproductive rates which affects population growth. Postulated: the power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man. Population is growing exponentially and will increase so much that we will end up not being able to feed ourselves. Total human environmental impact on the earth is determined by impact per individual by the total number of individuals ( total human environmental impact = impact/individual x total individuals) New leisure opportunities will be created due to a higher demand which could lead to more variety. Tourism patterns could change due to the changes in income.
