All research is initiated to try to address a problem in society that occurs. The question always has to be: speci c, detailed, and the way it is written should logically ow. There are two types of structures for research: deductive and inductive. Quantitative research gathers information that is in numerical form. i. e. indicating on a scale of one to ve the extent to which they agree with a statement. Quantitative data is often analyzed through statistical procedures in order to derive a meaning. Qualitative research gathers information that is descriptive, non-numerical, and often in word form. i. e. diary accounts, interviews, observations, etc . Qualitative data is often analyzed through coding and thematic analysis in order to derive a meaning. i. e. researcher(s) reads, interprets, categorizes, and create themes from their data. Deductive/inductive and qualitative or quantitative must occur in all research.
