Document Summary

Situation ethics is the basic philosophy of acting in a loving way towards others as the best case. Situation ethics was a new standard of bioethics which challenged the paradigm of sanctity of life, as its foundation rested on love (agape). The only principle that obliges you to act is love, serving a good and right purpose. Individuals must be free from the rigid code of law. Developed by joseph fletcher in an attempt to make a third interpretation of morality between antinomianism and legalism. This acted as a centre for extremes (they are impractical because they lead to more suffering) Individual decisions are based on the particular situation, and must be rationalized. It was his belief that situation ethics will offer a sense of choice to individuals, giving them the opportunity to establish a sense of self. Individuals will likely pick situations in which they can relate to most, meaning high authenticity: legalism.
