Document Summary

Nutrients for blood health and phytochemicals: blood. Blood is continuously moving; delivering nutrients and oxygen while removing waste products. When blood is exposed to air, foreign substances, or secretions from injured tissues, platelets release a phospholipid known as thromboplastin. Thromboplastin catalyzes the conversion of the inactive protein prothrombin to the active enzyme thrombin. Thrombin then catalyzes the conversion of the precursor protein brinogen to the active protein brin that forms the clot. The main role of vitamin k in the body is its involvement in blood clotting. The current recommendation for vitamin k is an ai of 120ug/d for men and 90ug/d for women. No adverse effects are seen with vitamin k so no upper limit has been set. Bacteria in our gut produces about half of the vitamin k we need every day, meaning that we still need to get some from our diets. Some sources include green vegetables and vegetable oils: iron roles in the body.
