Lateral tracking may occur if structures around patella are out of balance (patella moves laterally) Palpating space btwn medial and lateral borders of the patella and femur may show tilting (lateral tilt, more space in the medial border) Provocation tests fwd lunge or step-down test (lack of control) Treatment arch support (pronators), taping, brace (for lateral tilting); weak external hip rotators and vastus medialis should be strengthened, tight internal hip rotators should be stretched.
