Interprofessional communication: healthcare relationships: model of health communication. Numerous kinds of relationships exist in health care settings. The communication that occurs within these relationships is affected by the roles each person plays within the relationship and by the expectations that they hold of one another. The verbal and nonverbal transactions (interactions) that occur include content and the relationship dimensions of messages. The contexts (circumstance) refer to the setting of these health care communication, while also referring to the number of participants. Relationships: professional-client, professional-professional, professional-signi cant others, client-signi cant others, professional-patient relationships. The relationship between the physician and the patient has been identi ed as one of the most crucial components of the entire health care delivery process. The nature of each professional- patient relationship is in uenced by the personal and professional characteristics (ie. age, sex, race, etc. ) that both the patient and professional bring to the relationship.
