The me in the age of nasser: radicalization of arab politics. Nasser has an appeal beyond egypt, put other countries don"t want to be controlled by him. Syria has many coups, not a homogeneous society, unstable. Syria, egypt, iraq fought for power in eastern arab world. Felt it would be less chaotic to join egypt in the uar. Iraq is very factionalized, cant push arabism as 20% of pop isn"t arab. State has demographic separation and no natural resources it still does well. Beirut is the paris of the middle east. Lebanon had a golden age before civil war. Israel suddenly many people from other nations in is real - syria, jordan, egypt. Anyone who is jewish can be israelis. Many israelis at this time from eastern europe/russia - survivors of holocaust. C hanging israeli population time can gain it too. Non jewish arabs had to carry special identification tabs.
