War communism to nep: civil war (cont) Centralized network around moscow in the spider web. Could mobilize troops quickly: rail way war . Soviets controlled the minority of the territory, but it was the centre. Didn"t need as big of an army as the whites because they could move the troops so quickly. Red army had the decisive military tactical advantage. By early 1920: white army is virtually defeated, last stand/evacuation from crimea. 1920 - once the threat of a victory by the white army was over: 2 massive peasant rebellions. How did the bolsheviks win over the masses: economy is in ruins, agricultural markets in particular. Peasants have landed large estates and distributed them amongst the commune. The large estates were generally the ones that produced for the market. Were eating more and less was making it to the market: less money from less grain.
