The civil war (1918-1920: recap - why bolsheviks won. Coup bc the bolsheviks organized a military coup and took over. Was a revolution because the government collapsed and was discredited. Has a geographical advantage even thought they did not have majority mass support. But had it in crucial cities and the soldiers. T more popular conceptions of what the revolution should bring. Lacked the majority support, but represented their interests. Say they have power, but lenin knows he has not real power. The war: is not over, has weakened all governing revolutions, martial law. No longer any real administration that is happening: large unlawful areas where the law of the strongest dominates. The geography of russia = weakness in this way. After revolution soldiers abandoned the front and return to countryside to take that is theirs. Bad for economy etc: germans and austrians continue to advance.
