Relations of power are made and remade within texts of enjoyment . The texts of enjoyment she talks about music, tv, shows, the general media. Power = gender, race, class, sexuality (all the structures in our lives that represent constraints; school, gov"t, family) These structures are reinforced; ex: masculine domination, lack of homosexuality, damsel in distress, etc (not meeting the bechdel test) We won so we don"t need feminism. undoing of feminism in popular culture out of date. Postfeminism = active process by which feminist gains in 1970s/80s are undermined. Female achievement now based on female individualism, not feminist politics. Now when young women rise it is because they deserve to as individuals not because of larger battles have been fought but need to keep being fought. Neoliberalism = individuals now choose kind of life they want to live in an ever expanding marketplace. (ethic of freedom) certain amount of collective responsibility.
