Gender rersoles in modern families have changed to becoming more neutral in that men know participate in child rearing. Western masculinity across time- tremendous change over time. Things not associated with masculinity-cis males should not wear dresses or have long hair. Specific context for when cis males are allowed to wear dresses, kilts or robes. People do the work of performing and producing masculinity or femininity on a daily basis through the use of props. Active social construction- masculinities comes into existence as people act. They are actively produced, using the resources and strategies available in a given milieu. Masculinities created in specific historical circumstances vulnerable to contestation in which a dominant masculinity may be displaced. Masculinities and femininities do not just come into excitenace they are constructed in the process that constitutes a gender order. Binary masculinity and femininity react and defined in opposition to each other.
