Scene is overly conventionalised chaucer is trying to convey how arcite is so completely engulfed in his love, everything about where he is, when he is, etc. is about how the lover is/acts/ talks/etc. The lover"s lament: he talks about his lineage and the genealogy of thebes concerned with history, the passage of time, etc. Cursed by juno brought war upon the city of thebes. I once was arcite of the royal house, but now i"ve been reduced, i"ve lost my name, my history, etc. His station is lowered now that he is philostrate the theban family continues to be lowered in station/status represented by arcite.
