Deals with things that could actually happen based on the current state of science and technology. Science fiction is something with narrative that is impossible. Speculative fiction draws on current science and politics. Employs the means that are already more or less at hand, and takes place on planet earth (or something like it) Speculative fiction invents nothing we haven"t already invented or started to invent. Every novel begins with a what if, and then sets forth its axioms - Implications of science and technology: imagines a world where not many people are present anymore, the near future of climate change (ocean has risen, really hot, no more seasons, genetic modifications (rakunk, wolvogs, & pigoons) Frankenstein pursuit of knowledge, now we idealise nature, human nature. One good story, that one & frankenstein storytelling.
