Young girl, afraid to be alone because of her dreams, appropriately named faith. Faith telling goodman brown not to leave was her way of begging him to help her resist temptation. Third person narrator, hawthorne is trying to say don"t leave your faith; he could not have spelt it out any other way. Goodman brown was a hypocrite for believing it was okay for him to fall for temptation and go into the woods but not for anyone else. Young goodman brown clearly fits into the romantic genre, in its broader sense: set in an earlier time (17th century new england), in a dark mysterious forest, and features supernatural events.
