Document Summary

The function of irony in the false gem . The word "irony" comes from the ancient greek eir ne a, meaning dissimulation or feigned ignorance (literary devices). It is a literary device in which words are used in such a way that their intended meaning is different from the actual meaning of the words. It may also be a situation that ends up in quite a different way than what is generally anticipated. In simple words, it is a difference between appearance and reality (literary devices). The irony in "the false gems" can be seen as twofold. What monsieur lantin expects to happen never does. Instead, his expectations are continually overthrown again and again. Lantin moves from one false assumption about his world to another, we see that irony makes up the bulk of the narrative. Monsieur lantin was unspeakably happy with his wonderful wife who took care of him and his household marvelously.
