A deliberate fragment can be used for special effect, but you should avoid fragments in your essays. Understanding how a sentence works will help you avoid common grammatical errors and help you improve your style. The verb is the heart of the sentence. Choose verbs carefully make them do as much work as possible. I"m going home to comb my hair. I"m going home to style my hair. I"m going home to cut my hair. I"m going home to straighten my hair. I"m going home to curl my hair. Every sentence will also have a grammatical subject. You can find the subject by first finding the verb and asking who or what + verb? . Note also that the subject and verb must go together .
