Style: this term refers to the rhetorical manner of composition. The style of an essay chiefly depends on 4 elements: diction (world choice, point of view (the voice either subjected/personal or objective/impersonal, format (the physical representation of the essay, tone (attitude toward the topic) Be aware of your relationship to the audience. The ability to find the right tone, depending on context, is usually called tact . An essayist uses the tactful tone of someone who assumes: the readers intelligence, the readers desire to be informed and intellectually challenged (without being confused, the reader"s appreciation for a balanced argument. Formal diction: means that the choice of words and phrases is standard english. *avoid the first and second person (i am not supposed to be talking to you) *rely on objective fact rather than personal feelings: Feelings do not inform the final copy of academic essays.
