Canada is experiencing change in population health when compared to other developed countries. Reflecting on the topic of sdh what can be said about their application to the canadian prison population: lack of skills, precarious housing situations, coming from the prison system with various disadvantages. Correctional services overseas health care (priority is public safety more so than health and safety of prisoners) Actuarial justice: new penology/actuarial justice refer to a change in correctional philosophy where the goal is to manage the risks they represent (standardized correctional paths) Allows for better assessment of what they"re risks are (likelihood that they"ll commit another offense) Will look at family history, past offenses. When you"re asserting your right (i. e. don"t want to take certain mediation, isn"t working) could elevate risk if they were to get out.
