Complexity of issue is not usually addressed. Its nature is presented in a simplified and stereotyped way: morality is often at the centre of it, various experts state diagnoses and solutions. Moral panics review (2: moral panics involve claims-makers, those who make claims that something is dangerous/a threat to society or a group in society. Moral panics doesn"t have to agree with everyone: we are more concerned with how these claims are made. Moral panics review (3: folk devils are needed in a moral panic. Visible reminders of what we should not be. Emphasizes what is /is not acceptable behaviour and us vs. them. Create and sustain us vs. them mentality: studying moral panics and folk devils can tell us about changes in society (social change)
