The means to obtain goals are not suitable for some, difficulty to go through certain means to obtain their goals. Merton: some go through deviant means to achieve goals. Retreatist: dependent on society, marginalized and ostracized status, equilibrium stays balanced in society, re(cid:373)i(cid:374)ders of (cid:449)hat (cid:449)e should(cid:374)"t do. Solutions: proactive, legitimate, we should stop aiming too high. Critical assessment: acknowledge, imply that those in low ses commit more.
