Origins of stats: urbanizaion, dangerous classes: to help learn to beter manage these populaions. = need for state to have info on ciizens. A lot of naion states developing stats managed through various government domains: crime stats. Educaion levels, age, gender, reason all factors documented on convicted individual. Compte general: 1827 france, details of crimes, acquitals, convicions, punishments. Ethical perspecive: non ethical due to no consent and because these prisoners were being used to conduct real life experiments. Higher crime & recidivism rates if an individual was being reconvicted, that was doc"d as well. Challenge classical crm: not delivering in its promise to provide a more eicient way. Predicion: in terms of what we can anicipate. Concept of the average man: reps characterisics of the normal populaion. Paterns in terms of consistency of how orders were taking place.
