Can not attach probation to a 3 years sentence. Mandatory: keep the peace, reporting to a probation officer as required, stay away from criminal associates. Optional: no alcohol, not aloud to go near certain places, (ie, public parks), no contact with victim, curfew, banned from phones, have to be attending schools. Dual roles of probation officers: not an easy job, (cid:862)super pro(cid:271)ation(cid:863) (cid:1005)(cid:1004) years : high risk offenders, If you breach your probation conditions you go back to court, and get retried for a new sentence. Restitution : compensation to the victim for the crime, ex, have to pay for stolen property. Community service: number of community service hours. Must paw w/i specified amount of time. Money goes to the province (when it goes to the victim its restitution) Judge may have little knowledge of ability to pay. Ability to pay be included in pre-sentence report. 1 in 5 admissions to jail -> result of inability to pay fine.
