Understand how the work of the following scholars can be considered as embodying medium theory: neil postman, sven bikerts, nicholas carr. The historical and cross cultural study of different cultural environments created by different media of communication. Example study of medium: the difference between reading the book and seeing the movie with. Technological determinism; the idea that technology itself determines social, cultural, political, economical etc. factors: the sequences of invention and application of communication technology influences the direction and pace of social change . Each technology has a bias to a particular communication form, content and uses. Amusing ourselves to death (1988-ish: argues that aldus huxley is right, looks at our ability to change the channel" on news and information we don"t want to know about. Focusing on television as how are we amusing ourselves to death: sm as an extension of this research.
