After odysseus has a series of adventures, including episodes involving 3 attractive females, he"s returned to his home ithaca. In homer"s odyssey at this point, when he gets back to ithaca, the poem is only halfway through. 2nd half of poem: odysseus has to scout out his own kingdom in disguise as a beggar and other things. Odysseus returns in secret he only tells 2 people: his son telemachos who is under immense pressure from suitors to convince. Penelope will be the one that can take odysseus" bow down from wall, string it, Odysseus is home: he has saved wife from remarriage, saved son from probable death, saved kingdom from vultures. End of poem penelope and odysseus go to bed together. Odysseus has been told his death will come from the sea. One year he"s travelling and gets in a quarrel with a young man in a tavern young man kills him.
