Humans are disinguished by other life forms by their ability to make, use and understand symbols. Symbols play a part of our everyday lives, although we may not even recognize them as such. Any meaning ascribed to a symbol is speciic to a paricular cultural tradiion. In order to interpret a symbol we have to see how it was used, and see it in the context of other symbols. We can only be use of their meaning if there is writen evidence that atests to its meaning. Every individual has perspecive of the world, or a cogniive map.
