CLA 2101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Dendra, Kilt, Minoan Civilization
Document Summary
The rise of the mycenaean palaces mycenae. We know a little a bit about their armour because seals, rings, and images are shown of warriors wearing it. There are portrayals of their men and the battles (heroic nudity). They were probably wearing some sort of protection, but they were no fully protected. They had linen greaves (shin guards) which was effective against arrows and a kilt. Even if you had bronze on top, you would need linen to protect from the heat and the sun. Dendra armour would not be found in any depictions because it was a restricting piece that didn"t let the person run or ride a horse. It"s made of separate pieces of bronze that are held together with cords. If you wanted to be a true warrior, you must kill the boar in order to make the helmet. The shield was probably made with wood and covered in cow hide.
