Hereditary, no way for a family to change their social class. Over hundreds of years some families lose their money, some patricians are poor and some plebeians are rich. No matter how rich a family became, they stay classified as plebs. Patricians have all the rights and control everything. Plebeians go on strike because they want the same rights (494) They all leave rome and go to the sacred mount, set up camp, wont fight, patricians are defenseless. Eventually the patricians give in and give them some rights. Terms stop mattering so much because they begin to have the same rights and everyone becomes similar.
